Often, one needs only a few minutes by foot, car or bus to discover the many facets which constitute this incredible wealth.
Right next door is Riquewihr, pearl of the vineyard and medieval city which is admirably conserved, a p!cturesque, small market-town whlch is tightly enclosed wlthin its XII-, XIV-, and XVI-century walls.
Kaysersberg, which has Renaissance houses with double gables and a fortified bridge, is the native city of Dr. Albert Schweitzer.

Colmar, the capital wine citv of Alsace, is one of the cities which Is most enjoyedhnd most visited in Alsace for its art and hlstory Native city of the sculptor Bartholdi, creator of the Statue of Liberty, there are many interesting historical spots : the Maison Pfister (1537), l'ancienne Douane Customs House) of the XV century, the Maison des têtes (1609), magnificent religious buildings, cathedrals, convents and churches of various perlods and, of course, the Musee d'Unterlinden, wlth the Retable d'Issenheim which is known throughout the world. Colmar is an ideal spot for strolling.

A bit farther on is Mulhouse, rich in its unusual and amazing museums : Railroad Museum and the Museum of the Fireman are unique in their kind, the Museum of printed cloth has archives which include nearly 8 million samples and patterns, and, of course, the amazing Natlonal Museum of automobiles which encompasses more than 500 vehicles of 90 different brand names, this constituting the most impressive museum of its kind in the world. Special mention must be made of the Ecomusée d'Ungersheim which will make the charm and activity of an ancient village relive for us.

Strasbourg is an European city, in which the Maison Kammerzell (XV and XVI
centuries and the Pharmacie du Cerf (XIII-century pharmacy and oldest in France) are dominated by a cathedral which took almost 4 centuries to build. The cathedral raises above the old city of the Petite France ("Little France") quarter which has magnificant timber-framed houses and hotels of the XVIII century.
Germany and Switzerland are not far away either and are included in tours proposed by the Center.

A conserved environnement

The quality of the Alsatian environment contributes greatly to its wealth. For nature-lovers, hundreds of kilometers of pedestrian pathways will lead you to the
Vosgien helghts or to lake shores. The meals servea in Fermes Auberges ("FarmInns") will reinvigorate many an indlvldual - amateur mountain bikers, golfers, or parachutists will not refute that point.
